A simple but powerful activity that reinforces the concept that words are split up into sounds.

It also helps to develop the knowledge that blends (e.g. 'cl' or 'st') are individual sounds (e.g. /c/ and /l/ or /s/ and /t/) and (if the child knows the spelling) that sounds can be formed by more than one letter and that letters can be silent.

(Instructions included.)

The Now, Next, Then board can be used with learners who benefit from structure and knowing what comes next. It's also great for children who struggle to focus and need a game as incentive.

Simply print and stick the sheets to card or laminate. Then cut out the activity cards to add to the board in the order you want.

Editable and blank cards included in this Powerpoint file.
